The signatories express deep concern about the rise in antisemitism in Hungary and point towards the danger of such rhetoric, resembling the kind of language that led Europe to its darkest age – the Holocaust. They note that this statement is merely one of many incidents in a series of public pronouncements in recent months by members of the Jobbik Party which have sought to single out minority groups in Hungary.
In the letter the members of parliament call for the leaders of Hungary to remember the democratic principles which form the basis of the Republic and for the principles and guidelines of the Jobbik party to be reviewed with this in mind.
The signatories strongly condemn all forms of intolerance and stress the need to ensure that all acts of discrimination are prevented or curbed, as there is only a short step from hate speech to violent attacks against minority groups.
