Israel says vote of motion in the British parliament 'could undermine the potential for Israelis and Palestinians to attaining peace through bilateral talks'
LONDON (EJP)---Israel's embassy in London said that the overwhelming vote by the British parliament approving a non-binding motion calling on the government to recognize a Palestinian state ''is a unilateral measure that could undermine the potential for Israelis and Palestinians to attaining peace through bilateral talks.''
"Premature international recognition sends a troubling message to the Palestinian leadership that they can evade the tough choices that both sides have to make, and actually undermines the chances to reach a real peace," the embassy statement reads. It added, "Recognition of a Palestinian state should be the result of a successful conclusion of direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority."
