Italian Jews slam campaign to boycott Jewish shops

Talijanski Židovi protiv kampanje za bojkot židovskih dućana

Renzo Gattegna, president of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, the country’s EJC affiliate has sharply condemned a campaign to boycott Jewish-owned shops. Gattegna’s comments follow the discovery on Saturday of posters in a number of neighbourhoods in rome calling for the boycott. The campaign was launched by the far-Right, Vita Milice Est, although the text of the posters is similar to those utilised by far-Left and pro-Hamas groups in recent weeks.

The text of the posters reads as follows: “Boycotting all Jewish products and shops is necessary to put a stop to the massacre in Palestine. A percentage of the profits from each shop, factory and business where the owner is Jewish is sent to Israel to finance the purchase of arms and the pursuit of a massacre of those who have the right to live in their country ».
