At White House Hanukkah party, Obama emphasizes freedom and food

..A Washington tradition started by President George W. Bush, the party has actually expanded (to meet demand) to two: one in the afternoon and one in the evening. This year’s mood was particularly festive, given that the parties were on Wednesday, the same day that Alan Gross was released from five years in a Cuban prison.


Tradicija Hanuke u Washingtonu počela je s predsjednikom Bushom, a zapravo se radi o dvije proslave - jedna poslije podne i druga navečer. Ove godine bilo je posebno svečano jer je proslava bila u srijedu, na isti dan kada je Alan Gross oslobođen, nakon pet godina, iz zatvora na Kubi, što je predsjednik Obama posebno pozdravio prema židovskoj tradiciji "m itzvahs is ‘pidyon shvuyim".. Također je govorio o drugoj židovskoj tradiciji: hrani.


O povratku Alana Grossa rekao je:

“He’s back where he belongs — in America, with his family, home for Hanukkah,” Obama said. “And I can’t think of a better way to mark this holiday, with its message that freedom is possible, than with the historic changes that I announced today in our Cuba policy.”..


Gosti su bili  brojni novinari i demokratski uglednici, voditelji ureda za manjine, rabin Jack Moline, direktor Nacionalnog demokratskog koncila i drugi  odličnici...
