BERLIN JEWISH MUSEUM REOPENS WITH TOTALLY REVAMPED NEW CORE EXHIBIT
Berlin Jewish Museum has reopened with a totally revamped core exhibition that prioritizes Jewish life in Germany — including rebuilding Jewish life in the decades after the Shoah and then after the Berlin Wall came down — as well as Jewish history, art, traditions, and heritage.
Židovski muzej i Berlinu se ponovno otvorio sa osvježenom osnovnom izložbom koja je dala prioritet prikazu života u Njemačkoj. Tu je uključena i ponovna izgradnja židovskog života nakon Holokausta, zatim nakon pada Berlinskog zida kao i židovska povijest, umjetnost, tradicija i nasljeđe.
Izložba se naziva "Židovski život u Njemačkoj- prošlost i sadašnjost" i otvorena je zgradi koju je dizajnirao Daniel Libeskind, nakon više od 2,4 godine razvoja i rekonstrukcije. U oblikovanju izložbe sudjelovao je tim od 20 eksperata ta razne teme. Fokusiralo se i na odnose između Židova i Kršćana i na porast sekularnog okružja.
Izložba je strukturirana oko pet povijesnih epoha- prekrivajući 1.700 godina židovskog prisustva u Njemačkoj, od početka židovskog života kao Aškenazi do emancipacije u 19.stoljeću, kroz strašnu destrukciju od nacista te do židovskog života danas. Za razliku od ranije izložbe (2011-prosinac 2017) nova izložba nije strukturirana striktno kronološki. Postoji pet "epoha soba" i 8 "tematskih soba" s brojnim temama i konceptima.
Glavni kurator izložbe Cilly Kugelmann je kazala: Mi smo se fokusirali na interakciju Židova s njihovim okruženjem i uzimali teme o židovskoj kulturi i religiji....

One centerpiece is an interactive media installation called Family Albums, where visitors can explore the life stories of several generations by explored more than 500 documents and photographs, everyday items, and works of art from the bequests of ten families. Antisemitism, persecution, and anti-Jewish violence through the ages is also dealt with, both as a recurring theme and in a separate museum segment.
“The history of the Jews has not changed, but our perspectives on it have,” Hetty Berg, who took up the post of Museum director in April, in the height of the pandemic, said in a statement. “The new exhibition is our response to changing viewing conventions and visitor expectations, as well as a new state of research.”
Together with the launch of the new exhibit, the Museum launched a smartphone app that visitors can use onsite or at home, via audio guides, information, games, and short films in various languages, including interviews with artists, object donors, historical witnesses sharing first-hand experiences, and curators.
